Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Lee Owen began playing the guitar at age 9. In 1991 he was a founding member of Grateful Dead tribute band, Born Cross Eyed.
After college, he worked at a record label based out of historic RCA Studio B on music row in Nashville. During this time, he played with Vassar Clements and The Little Big Band and appears on the album Back Porch Swing. Lee recorded several instruments on the Trout Fishing in America album, Closer to the Truth, which featured other notable musicians Vassar Clements, Jerry Douglas, Tim OBrien, Anders Osbourne, and Mickey Raphael.
In 2000 he returned to his college town of Lexington, Kentucky where he enjoys raising his daughter and playing with regional bluegrass, rock, and Grateful Dead tribute bands.
Lee has been fortunate to share the stage with such notable musicians as Vassar Clements, Melvin Seals, Rob Barraco, John McEuen, David Amram, Darrel Angor, Mark Karan, Tom Constanten, David Gans, Bob Bralove, Dino English, Rob Koritz, Lisa Mackey, Stu Allen and Kenny Withrow.
I play acoustic and electric music of all kinds in the Kentucky bluegrass region but I'll travel if the price is right. Reach out to me to discuss your event and see what makes the most sense. I can play alone or hire other musicians to suit the needs of any event. Contact Lee @ LeeOwen.com by email or iMessage for more information.
